As a candidate for RMWB Council in Ward 1, Ty is dedicated to building a stronger, more vibrant community by prioritizing local economic growth and opportunity. Ty believes in the power of our local businesses and workforce, which is why Ty will advocate for hiring local companies for municipal contracts and supporting home-based businesses. By keeping our resources and opportunities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and encouraging entrepreneurship from our homes, we can foster job creation, empower small business owners, and build a sustainable future. Together, let’s invest in our people, strengthen our economy, and create a brighter future for our community.
Vote for Ty, because Ty’s Our Guy!
What Ty Stands For:
Accountability:
Ty believes that local government should be fully accountable to the people it serves. He is committed to ensuring that decisions are made with the best interests of the residents in mind, and that all actions taken by the council are transparent and open for public scrutiny. Ty’s approach will be to listen closely to the community’s needs and concerns, and take responsibility for delivering on the promises made during the election process.
Transparency:
In an era where trust in government can sometimes wane, Ty wants to set a new standard for transparency in municipal leadership. He advocates for clear communication between the council and the public, making sure that residents are informed about key decisions, budgets, and development plans. His goal is to foster an environment where residents can actively engage with the issues that affect their daily lives and have their voices heard.
Smart Development:
Ty understands the importance of smart, sustainable development in shaping the future of our community. He is committed to ensuring that growth in Ward 1 is both responsible and forward-thinking. This means making thoughtful decisions about land use, infrastructure, and resource allocation to promote a strong, sustainable community that can adapt to the future while preserving the quality of life that makes the RMWB such a special place to live.
A Passion for Animals and the Community:
Ty’s dedication to his community goes beyond politics. He has always been an advocate for animals, demonstrating his love for them through several fundraising events with the local SPCA. One of his most notable efforts was his participation in the Locked in a Kennel event, where he volunteered to spend time in a kennel to raise awareness and funds for the SPCA's mission. This hands-on commitment shows Ty’s deep connection to the welfare of animals in the RMWB, and his desire to make a tangible difference for both the people and the animals in his community.
In It for the People, Not the Money:
Ty is clear: he’s not in this for the paycheck. His dedication to serving the people of Ward 1 is his priority, not financial gain. In fact, Ty has pledged to donate a portion of his salary from his time on council to a different local charity each month. By doing so, he ensures that his service to the community extends beyond the council chambers and directly supports the causes that matter most to the people of RMWB.
As a candidate, Ty is not driven by personal business interests or property investment. He’s an average citizen who cares deeply about the well-being of his neighbors, the future of our community, and the animals who call this place home. His focus is on creating a community where families can grow, local businesses can succeed, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute to a better future.
Join Ty in shaping a stronger, more accountable future for Ward 1.
Fort McMurray has always stood as a place of opportunity, a hub that has drawn people from across Canada and around the world with the promise of good jobs, strong communities, and a high quality of life.
But times are changing. As the oil and gas industry evolves, so must we. It’s time for leadership that champions innovation, supports working families, and builds a future that honours both our history and our potential.
Too many residents struggle to access affordable, timely care for their pets. That needs to change.
I will:
• Advocate for a 24/7 emergency veterinary clinic through collaboration with the province and local providers
• Offer relocation and retention incentives to attract veterinarians to live and work here
• Expand mobile vet clinics and affordable spay/neuter programs
• Strengthen support for the Fort McMurray SPCA and regional animal welfare initiatives
Our businesses and tradespeople are the backbone of Fort McMurray. We must stop outsourcing vital municipal work to companies outside our region.
I will:
• Champion a Local First procurement policy prioritizing qualified Fort McMurray businesses
• Create a Local Business Registry to ensure inclusion in all municipal bids
• Establish a Local Business Roundtable to promote fair, transparent tendering
• Support small businesses and Indigenous entrepreneurs in accessing municipal contracts
Fort McMurray should be a place where everyone can afford to live, work, and succeed no matter their background or income.
I will:
• Support mixed-income and affordable housing developments
• Expand access to childcare, senior care, and services for people with disabilities
• Improve public transit and safe transportation between neighborhoods
• Advocate for stronger mental health, addiction, and family support services
Clean, welcoming public spaces improve quality of life. We must also be ready for the environmental challenges unique to our region.
I will:
• Upgrade and maintain parks, trails, and playgrounds in every neighborhood
• Create safe, well-designed off-leash dog parks that reflect community needs
• Strengthen flood protection, wildfire response, and emergency readiness
• Support reforestation, urban beautification, and tree-planting programs
Our future depends on a resilient economy built on more than one industry. One that creates jobs, attracts families, and keeps local talent here.
I will:
• Invest in economic diversification from tourism and trades to tech and environmental services
• Partner with Keyano College to expand training in skilled trades, healthcare, and digital fields
• Offer incentives to businesses that hire locally and reinvest in the community
• Attract entrepreneurs, remote workers, and new families through smart growth strategies
Ward 1 deserves leadership that listens, engages, and puts residents first.
I will:
• Host regular town halls across all major neighborhoods
• Create a Citizen Advisory Circle to bring real voices into policy discussions
• Push for full transparency in budgeting and major municipal decisions
• Stay connected through newsletters, social media, and one-on-one meetings
I’m committed to advocating for the closure of private aerodromes north of Fort McMurray to help boost passenger traffic at our International Airport. This will strengthen our local economy, attract more flights and visitors, and ensure broader benefits for our entire community.
